Cet atelier permet aux étudiants d'explorer la perte de la biodiversité liée à la industrie
agroalimentaire. Cela leur donne la chance de prendre part à une tradition ancienne: la
conservation de semences. Par le fait même, ils contribuent à la conservation de leur propre
diversité génétique dans le potager de l’école.

Dépendant du niveau des classes, les étudiants apprennent quelles informations sont sur les sachets de semences et dans quel ordre on les retrouvent. Nous explorons quelques-unes des techniques utilisées par les premiers colons et les Premières Nations, pour conserver des semences et sécher des herbes. Nous discutons aussi de quelles façons les plantes interagissent avec les composantes vivantes et non-vivantes de leur habitat, afin d'assurer leur survie à travers la dispersion des graines.
